Sea-inspired Wedding

Sue's Story

This piece was commissioned as a Wedding present.

Sue wanted all the sea-inspired aspects from her nephew's wedding replicated into a piece of art to hang on their wall.

She was very clear how she wanted the piece to look and wanted to be involved in the process too.

Creating the story

We built the design around the hand created pieces from the wedding day and a Welsh Wedding Knot Sue had made.

Fabric was dyed and quilted to create the Welsh coastline leading to the beach, where shells were embroidered to match the invitation. The cork beach became the background for the embroidered panels and grey linen from the day used for the corner sections. I hand sewed Sue's Wedding Knot to classic cream satin to mirror the wedding dress.

I replicated the kissing fish, from the table plan, which I padded to add texture and in the opposite corners I created lace starfish. The Bride's dress was mirrored by sewing tiny pearls along each edge.

On the reverse I added applique details that Sue had requested and a message from her. She provide me with a piece of driftwood so I added loops, adjusting each to ensure it hung straight!

"The quilt was exactly how I wanted it. My nephew and his new wife loved it."
